Difference between wanting really bad and Passion?

What is the difference between wanting something really bad and having a passion for something?

There was a guy who played football and he wanted very badly to play in the NFL. He worked hard but not as hard as most because he knew his skills was natural and he allowed his attitude to put a damper on him being one of the greats. I admired his talent and the impact he was able to have on every young person he came across. The day came where he would be drafted into the NFL and his contract was huge! Of course he partied, but when the season came, he went out there and looked promising until and injury accurred. After that injury, he lost that drive, the drive that allowed him to sacrafice somethings in order to get that big contract.

He wanted to be in the NFL really bad but did not have a passion for it. When you have a passion for something, there is no such thing as a set back, only a detour. Defensive ends run into detours when those Offensive linemen are throwing blocks to protect their quarter backs but the defensive end don't get caught up in set backs, they are relentless! DE will keep coming until they find away around the detour. That is what you do when you have a passion for something.
